Pre-manufactured parts for pillar construction

Challenge:

If GGR kilns are frequently operated in a stop-and-go mode, they often have to be repaired prematurely due to typical pillar damage. Based on theoretical considerations and our long-standing expertise in refractory engineering for lime kilns, the following causes were determined:

1. Inhomogeneous temperature distribution and the related stress loads:

During heating-up
During cooling down
With non-stationary kiln operation

2. Stress loads due to thermal expansion

Advantages of using pre-manufactured components for pillar construction in MAERZ annular kilns:

In order to best combat the effects described above and to keep damage to the brickwork to a minimum, the new pre-manufactured part component system offers the following advantages:

Increased mechanical strength due to large volume blocks and thus fewer joints.
Radial and tangential tongue-and-groove-system increases mechanical strength.
High material strength by installing a refractory castable based on the proven COMPRIT 150Z (COMPRITAL 155W) grades.
Cost savings due to shorter installation times compared to the standard design with bricks.
