AOD Converter

For decades, dolomite brick linings have been used successfully in converters for the production of stainless steel.

Due to their effective contribution to the manufacture of clean steel and strong resistance to the SiO2-rich slag produced during the reduction phase, dolomite and magnesia dolomite bricks are particularly highly valued in the industry.

Operating conditions in the process of stainless steel production are causing severe loads upon the converter lining – one reason why RHI uses only the highend products.

Refractory solutions for AOD Converter

The RADEX SC product family is the result of the consistent further development of magnesia-dolomite bricks of the very highest quality. Using a finely balanced mix of raw materials, RADEX SC successfully combines the chemical resistance of dolomite bricks with the outstanding refractoriness of magnesite bricks. This unique combination makes it a perfect choice in the highly loaded areas of AOD converters and VOD ladles.

The RADEX brick BD65-01 offers the best alternative for tuyere zones. The mixes PENTARAM, PENTAMIX E, PENTAFILL B and PENTAREP FL facilitate a quick installation and safe production process.

The combination of RADEX SC, RADEX BD65-01 and PENTABRICK enables the design of balanced lining concepts with outstanding advantages:

• High thermal shock resistance
• High resistance against slag attack

In AOD converters the thickness of the wear lining will be adapted according to the design of the vessel. For areas with premature wear, such as tuyere or slag zone, bricks up to 1,000 mm length are available.
