Press release - RHI receives TRIGOS Award for Sustainability   05/16/2008

RHI receives an award for special training of apprentices: Federal Minister Erwin Buchinger and President of the Federation of Austrian Industry Veit Sorger awarded the TRIGOS 2008 in the category “workplace – large companies” to RHI.

At the TRIGOS-Gala on 15 May 2008 at the Palladium in Vienna, Donau City, RHI’s occupational health specialist Dr. Stefan Bayer accepted the “TRIGOS 2008” for apprentice training in the Group, more specifically for the “for future profit-able” project.

RHI apprentices are fit for the future

RHI has recognised that the training of employees must follow a holistic approach to ensure sustainable corporate success. RHI’s apprentice training therefore focuses on “future competence”. Starting in the first year of their apprenticeship, RHI apprentices enjoy special further training measures summarised under the term “future competence”. Technical know-how, knowledge of methodology, safety and health competence alone are not enough to meet the challenges of modern industrial operations. Only in combination with the corresponding self-competence can the knowledge conveyed in training successfully be implemented into professional practice. The personal development of the apprentices therefore plays a significant role and is promoted by the corresponding measures.

The jury honoured “both the innovative character and the holistic approach of the project”. The promotion of social competence is of particular importance. Andreas Meier, CEO of RHI AG, is pleased with the award: “This award for sustainability is an important confirmation of the internal programme for training and further education. The project “future competence” is important within the Group because well trained apprentices are tomorrow’s qualified skilled workers.”

Record: 212 applications for the TRIGOS Award

On the occasion of the five-year existence of TRIGOS – the award for companies with responsibility –212 submitted applications broke all records. This reflects growing awareness among Austrian companies in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). An independent jury (consisting of representatives of the organisations responsible for TRIGOS, a business and civil society platform) nominated 39 outstanding projects from all applications, which were nominated for the TRIGOS 2008 in the categories workplace, market, society and ecology. 13 award winners were chosen.
